Norman Owen

Norman Howell Owen was born on 24 January 1888, the son of John Morgan Owen, a doctor, and his wife Margaret Elizabeth. In March 1906, when he was 18 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Manchester branch. After completing his apprenticeship he remained there as a clerk. In May 1912 he moved to Dover branch; in January 1913 to Ramsgate branch; and in August 1914 to the bank's London office.

 

During the First World War Owen joined the army, becoming a Captain in the Royal Army Service Corps. He died of haemorrhage, following pneumonia, whilst still on active service on 1 March 1919. He was 31 years old.
