Bernard Pedley

Bank: Parr's Bank

Place of work: Leicester branch

Died: 4 June 1916

Bernard Pedley was born in Crick, Northamptonshire, in 1894, the son of Alfred Pedley and his wife Harriet. He was educated at Wyggeston School, Leicester, after which he went to work for Parr's Bank.

In June 1915 Pedley left his job at the bank's Leicester branch to join the army, becoming a Lance Corporal in the Worcestershire Regiment. He served in the Mediterranean and on the Western Front, and was killed in action on the Somme on 4 June 1916. He was 21 years old.

Bernard Pedley is commemorated on two bank war memorials at NatWest Leicester Granby Street branch: a standard format London County Westminster & Parr's Bank memorial and a more unusual photographic tribute.
