Charles Paterson

Charles Paterson was born in Edinburgh in about 1886, the third son of James Paterson, a tailor, and his wife Ann. He worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland at its Edinburgh head office.

 

Outside work Paterson was a volunteer soldier, an officer in the Bankers' Company of the 4th Royal Scots. After the outbreak of the First World War Paterson left the bank to go on military service with his battalion. Second Lieutenant Charles Paterson was killed in action in the Dardanelles on 28 June 1915. He was 29 years old.
