Donald Arthur Payne was born on 12 May 1893, the son of the Reverend Arthur James Payne, a Baptist minister, and his wife Grace Adelaide. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Regent Street branch.

 

Early in the First World War Payne joined the army, serving as a Rifleman in the London Regiment. He died in France on 18 June 1917. He was 24 years old.

 

Donald Payne is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
