John French Puddicombe was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk, in 1888, the son of the Reverend Thomas Puddicombe, a Wesleyan minister, and his wife Sarah. He worked for Parr's Bank.

 

During the First World War Puddicombe left his job at the bank's Colwyn Bay branch to join the army. Lance Corporal Puddicombe of The King's (Liverpool Regiment) died of double pneumonia and pleurisy at Park Hall Camp, Oswestry on 10 April 1918. He was 29 years old.
