Laurence William Pilleau was born on 28 July 1892, the son of Franklin Henry Pilleau and his wife Ada. In September 1909, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank. He also joined the bank's staff sports club.

 

In July 1915 Pilleau left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Harrow branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the Coldstream Guards. He was killed in action in France on 15 September 1916. He was 24 years old.

 

Laurence Pilleau is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Harrow Town Centre branch.
