Oswald Cheyney Plowman was born on 12 December 1893, the son of Albert and Ada Plowman, who ran a drapery business together. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Cornhill, Prescott's office.

 

During the First World War Plowman left his job at the bank to join the army, becoming a Rifleman in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He died in France on 28 March 1918. He was 24 years old.

 

Oswald Plowman is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
