Thomas Hart Partington was born on 3 October 1896, the only child of William Henry Partington and his wife Margaret Ellen. He was educated at Sunning Hill Council School, Bolton Municipal Secondary School and Bolton Grammar School.

 

In August 1912 Partington went to work for Manchester & County Bank at its Atherton branch. The following January he transferred to Bolton branch.

 

In September 1914 Partington left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He was killed while serving as a stretcher bearer in France on 1 August 1917. He was 20 years old.

 

Partington's manager at the bank later recalled: 'I can only say he was one of the best youngsters in the service - and very popular. Whilst on leave at the end of June he came and offered his services during the balance which I greatly appreciated.'
