Cyril Clive Glandfield Ravine was born in Wellingborough on 31 October 1899, the son of Herbert Ravine, a commercial traveller, and his wife Emma. He was educated at Wellingborough Grammar School.

 

In September 1916, when Ravine was 16 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Manchester Smithfield Market branch. After his first few weeks, his manager reported that he was 'punctual and attentive to his duties, very willing and anxious to get on.'

 

On 6 November 1917, just a few days after his 18th birthday, Ravine volunteered for the Royal Flying Corps, later the Royal Air Force. Ravine died in France on 16 September 1918. He was 18 years old.
