Ernest Reeve

Ernest William Reeve was born in about 1878. In 1897 he went to work for Prescott, Dimsdale, Cave, Tugwell & Co in London. He also joined the bank's staff sports club, and represented the club at both football and cricket. In 1903 the bank was bought by Union of London & Smiths Bank, and Reeve became an employee of the larger bank.

 

During the First World War Reeve left his job at the bank's Hull Union Bank branch to go on military service. By 1917 he was a Captain in the East Yorkshire Regiment, and had been awarded the Military Cross. He was killed in action in France on 3 May 1917. He was 39 years old.

 

Ernest Reeve is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives
