Percy Roberts was born on 10 August 1884, the son of Henry William Roberts. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank and was a member of its staff sports club.

 

In August 1914 Roberts left his job at the bank's London head office to join the army. By 1916 he was a Lance Corporal in the Royal Fusiliers, on active service in France. He was killed in action on the Somme on 15 July 1916. He was 31 years old.
