William Riley

William Henry Riley was born on 8 January 1887. In April 1903 he went to work for Crompton & Evans' Union Bank, transferring to the bank's Matlock branch in 1910. The bank was acquired by Parr's Bank in 1914 and Riley joined the staff of the larger bank.

 

During the First World War Riley left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Army Service Corps. He died of septic poisoning in England on 28 March 1917. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Ethel Mary, and an infant son, Derrick Newton.
