William Ross

William Matheson Ross was born in Edinburgh in 1889, the only son of Donald Ross, an engrossing clerk, and his wife Marion. He worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland as a clerk at its Edinburgh head office.

 

Early in the First World War Ross left the bank to go on military service, becoming Private in the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He was invalided home from Gallipoli and died in Chichester Military Hospital on 26 December 1915. He was 26 years old.
