Alfred Hope Seddon was born on 14 November 1897, the son of Alfred Hope Seddon, a solicitor, and his wife Elizabeth. He was educated at Bolton Municipal Secondary School and after leaving school joined his father working for John Seddon, solicitor.

 

In June 1915 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank. In April 1917 he left his job at the bank's Bolton branch to enlist, becoming a Trooper in the Household Battalion. He was killed in action in France on 12 October 1917. He was 19 years old.
