Donald Sharp was born in Bury, Lancashire, on 25 April 1897, the son of James and Ada Sharp. In January 1913 he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co.

 

In March 1917 Sharp left his job at the bank's Haslington branch to join the army, becoming a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery. He died of pneumonia in Preston on 19 April 1917. He was 19 years old.
