Ernest Ambrose Syratt was born on 2 February 1885. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank and was a member of its staff sports club.

 

During the First World War Syratt left his job at the bank's London head office to join the army. By 1917 he was a Corporal in the London Regiment, on active service in Belgium. He died there on 30 November 1917 of wounds received in action. He was 32 years old and left a widow, Edile Marie, whom he had married in August 1915.

 

Ernest Syratt is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives
