Frank Roland Stonnill was born on 5 May 1896. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank, and was a member of its staff sports club.

 

During the First World War Stonnill left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Long Acre branch to join the army. He served for a time in the London Regiment, and in August 1916 was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Hertfordshire Regiment.

 

Second Lieutenant Stonnill was killed in action on the Somme on 24 March 1918. He was 21 years old.

 

Frank Stonnill  is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives
