Frederick Gordon Sweet was born in Ely, Cambridgeshire, in 1885. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank.

 

During the First World War Sweet left his job at the bank's London head office to go on military service. By 1917 he was a Lieutenant in the Essex Regiment, on active service in the Middle East. He died there on 26 March 1917. He was 32 years old.

 

Frederick Sweet is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
