George Sollory

Bank: National Provincial Bank of England

Place of work: West Hartlepool branch

Died: 4 November 1916

George Blount Sollory was born on 2 October 1871. He was a soldier, and rose to the rank of Serjeant Major in the Royal Garrison Artillery. After leaving the army he took a job as a messenger at West Hartlepool branch of National Provincial Bank of England.

After war broke out in 1914 Sollory rejoined his regiment, undertaking home service in Ireland, and later at Tynemouth. It seems that in his absence his wife Matilda took over some or all of his bank duties.

Company Serjeant Major Sollory died of heart failure on 4 November 1916, while undertaking an evening patrol at Tynemouth Castle. He was 45 years old and left a widow, Matilda, and 6-year-old daughter, Edna.
