James Harold Smith

James Harold Smith was born in Brockland, Lincolnshire, in 1898, the son of James Thomas Bennet Smith and his wife Elizabeth. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank.

 

During the First World War Smith left his job at the bank's Grimsby Smiths Bank branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Lance Bombardier in the Royal Garrison Artillery, on active service in France. He died there of pneumonia on 23 November 1918. He was 20 years old.

 

James Harold Smith is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
