Robert Douglas Sadd was born in West Ham in 1895, the son of Robert William Sadd, a company secretary, and his wife Mary Ellen. He worked for Glyn, Mills, Currie & Co.

 

In November 1915 Sadd left his job in the bank's Country Office to join the army, becoming a Private in the Honourable Artillery Company. He died in France on 14 February 1917. He was 21 years old.
