Thomas Sapstead was born in 1886. In May 1911 he went to work for Parr's Bank.

 

In April 1915 Sapstead left his job as a messenger at the bank's London Bartholomew Lane office to join the army, becoming a Rifleman in the London Regiment. He died on 29 August 1918 of wounds received in action on the Somme. He was 32 years old and left a widow, Edith Laura, and a 3-year-old daughter, Margaret Florence.

 

Thomas Sapstead is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
