Thomas Edgar Shedden was born on 4 May 1895, the son of Matthew and Mary Shedden. In March 1910, at the age of 14, he joined National Bank of Scotland, initially working as an apprentice at its Glasgow Crosshill branch. He became a clerk there in March 1913 and moved to the bank's Paisley Road branch in August 1913.

 

During the First World War he left his job at the bank and served in the army. He was killed in action on the Somme on 22 August 1916 whilst serving as a Lance Corporal in the Glasgow Highlanders Battalion, the Highland Light Infantry. He was 21 years old.

 

Thomas Shedden is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh
