Thomas Arthur Shillito was born in Lincoln in 1896, the son of Frederick Tom Shillito, a bank clerk, and his wife Ellen Sheldon. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank.

 

Shillito served as a soldier during the First World War, leaving his job at the bank's Lincoln Smiths Bank branch to join the army. He died in France on 28 April 1917 when serving as a Lance Corporal in the Lincolnshire Regiment.

 

Thomas Shillito is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
