Charles Greaves Turton was born on 21 August 1889, the son of John William Turton and his wife Margaret. In July 1906 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank.
At the end of August 1914 Turton left his job at the bank's Stockport branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the Manchester Regiment. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 4 June 1915. He was 25 years old.
