Edward John Tattam was born on 28 October 1896. On his 17th birthday in 1913 he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

In December 1915 Tattam left his job at the bank's Guildford branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Lance Corporal in the London Regiment. He died in France on 31 August 1918. He was 21 years old.
