George Tomlinson was born on 4 September 1895, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Tomlinson. In December 1912 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank.

 

In November 1914 Tomlinson left his job at the bank's Lytham branch to join the army, becoming a Private in The King's (Liverpool Regiment). He was killed in France on 16 June 1915. He was 19 years old.

I have over 100 letters written by George (my great uncle) during his training and his short time in France during WW1
