Henry Taylor was born on 28 February 1894, the son of John and Elizabeth Taylor. In July 1913 he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank. He also joined the bank's staff sports club.

In August 1914 Taylor left his job as a clerk at the bank's London head office to go on military service. By 1917 he was a Lieutenant in the Essex Regiment, attached to the Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action on 9 November 1917. He was 23 years old.
