Ralph James Tratt was born on 12 September 1897. In December 1914, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In January 1916 Tratt left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Brompton Square branch to go on military service, initially in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and later in the London Regiment. Private Tratt was killed on the Somme on 8 October 1916. He was 19 years old.

 

Ralph Tratt is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Knightsbridge branch.
