Sidney George Templar was born on 12 August 1897, the son of William George Templar and his wife Sarah Jane. In August 1915, when he was 18 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

In December 1916 Templar left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Lombard Street branch to go on military service, becoming a Rifleman in the London Regiment. He died in France on 30 November 1917. He was 20 years old.

Sidney Templar is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
