William Tait

William Tait was born on 24 April 1889, the son of Alexander and Mary Tait. In October 1914, when he was 15 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Glasgow office. He became a clerk there in October 1907.

 

In October 1914 Tait left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action on the Somme on 1 July 1916. He was 27 years old.
