Frederick George Usher was born on 5 June 1894, the son of Frederick Thomas Usher and his wife Edith. On his 17th birthday in 1911 Usher went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

During the First World War Usher left his job at the bank's Watford branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in France on 4 October 1915. He was 21 years old.
