Albert Wood was born in Ilford in 1898, the son of Ernest Edwin Wood, a cartage contractor, and his wife Caroline. From about 1915 he worked for Parr's Bank.

 

During the First World War Wood left his job at the bank's London Tottenham branch to join the army, serving initially in the London Regiment, and later as a Private in the Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action in Belgium on 21 September 1917. He was 19 years old.
