Eric Francis Whitlock was born on 19 October 1889. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank.
During the First World War Whitlock left his job at the bank's Sheffield Union Bank branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the York and Lancaster Regiment. He was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was 26 years old.
Eric Whitlock is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
