Frank Wood was born in Nottinghamshire in 1897, the son of the Reverend James Hathorn Roworth Wood, a clergyman in the Church of England, and his wife Edith. He grew up in Cropwell Bishop, Nottinghamshire.

 

Wood worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank, but during the First World War left his job at the bank's Nottingham branch to join the army. By 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). He died on 23 October 1917 of wounds sustained in action in France. He was 19 years old.

 

Frank Wood is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
