Frederick Wilkinson

Bank: Parr’s Bank

Place of work: Ashton-under-Lyne branch

Died: 18 October 1918

Frederick Wilkinson was born in Manchester in 1893, the son of William Ernest Wilkinson, a clerk, and his wife Elizabeth. From about 1909 he worked for Parr's Bank.

In February 1916 Wilkinson left his job at the bank's Ashton-under-Lyne branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Corporal in the Lancashire Fusiliers. He died in France on 18 October 1918 of wounds received in action. He was 25 years old.

After his death his widowed mother, who had very limited means and for whom Wilkinson had been the chief support, was granted a gratuity by the bank, to help her cope with the financial impact of her loss.

Frederick Wilkinson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Ashton Under Lyne branch.
