Frederick Arthur Wood was born on 13 May 1889. In September 1905 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank.

In September 1914 Wood left his job at the bank's Manchester head office to join the army, serving as a Rifleman in the Rifle Brigade. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 21 March 1915. He was 25 years old.
