George Wade was born on 2 October 1886, the son of George and Mary Wade. From January 1903 he worked for Manchester & County Bank.

 

In March 1916 Wade left his job at the bank's Oldham branch to go on military service, becoming a Private in the 26th (Bankers') Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 4 October 1916, two days after his 30th birthday.
