George Frank H Waites was born in Cheadle, Cheshire, on 21 August 1885, the only son of Mary Waites. In July 1901 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank.

 

In March 1917 Waites left his job at the bank's Manchester Piccadilly branch to go on military service. Rifleman Waites of the London Regiment was killed in action in France on 20 September 1917. He was 32 years old.
