Harold Wilcox

Place of work: Birkenhead branch

Died: 13 February 1919

Harold Ray Wilcox was born in Birkenhead in 1888, the son of William Edward Wilcox, a jeweller's assistant, and his wife Anne Harriett. He worked for Parr's Bank.

Early in the First World War Wilcox left his job at the bank's Birkenhead branch to go on military service. In summer 1915 he was promoted from Lieutenant to Captain in his regiment, the Lancashire Fusiliers. By 1917 he was no longer fit for active service due to illness contracted on active service, from which he died on 13 February 1919. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Ellen, whom he had married in 1916.
