Lawrence Victor Watson was born in Guiseley on 21 May 1892, the son of Jonas Watson, a weaver, and his wife Elizabeth. In May 1911 he went to work for Bradford District Bank at its Leeds Park Row branch. In 1914 he moved to Harrogate branch, and in 1915 to Bradford Market Street branch.

 

During the First World War Watson joined the army. By 1919 he was a Serjeant in the Royal Army Service Corps. He died in hospital in Boulogne on 18 February 1919 of bronchial pneumonia. He was 26 years old.
