Reginald Webberley

Bank: Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co

Place of work: Newcastle under Lyme branch

Died: 20 September 1917

Reginald Selwyn Webberley was born on 28 May 1898, the son of Frank Percival Webberley and his wife Sarah Elizabeth. In February 1915, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co at its Newcastle under Lyme branch. The bank's staff records show that his income helped to support his widowed mother, who was paralysed.

On 11 December 1916 Webberley left the bank to go on military service. By 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He died of wounds on the Western Front on 20 September 1917. He was 19 years old. The bank made a discretionary grant to his mother, to help reduce the financial impact of her loss.
