Place of work: London Bartholomew Lane office

Richard Horace Watts was born in Streatham, London, in 1895. From about 1913 he worked for Parr's Bank.

During the First World War Watts left his job at the bank's London Bartholomew Lane office to go on military service as a Private in the Royal Berkshire Regiment. He died in France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was 20 years old. His obituary in the bank's staff magazine noted, 'although he had only been in the service for quite a short time, he leaves behind him many friends who will mourn his loss.'

Richard Watts is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
