William Weir

William Robertson Weir was born in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute in 1883. He worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland at its Glasgow Calton and Bridgeton branch.

 

In July 1916 Weir left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Private in the Royal Scots. He was killed in Belgium on 22 August 1917. He was 34 years old.

 

William Weir is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh
