William Bryan Wood was born on 28 November 1894, the son of William Gent Wood, a farmer, and his wife Kate Annie. In October 1911 he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Wotton-under-Edge branch.

 

During the First World War Wood joined the army, and by 1916 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 23 July 1916. He was 21 years old.
