David James Anderson was born on 10 May 1910, the son of David and Jean Anderson. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in January 1928. He also became a member of the bank's staff sports club. 

 

In September 1941 Anderson left his job at the bank’s London Knightsbridge branch, to which he had been posted in November 1938, to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. 

 

Pilot Officer Anderson was killed on a bombing raid over Hamburg on 30 July 1943. He was 33 years old and left a widow, Marjorie, whom he had married in 1935, and two young sons. 

 

David Anderson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Knightsbridge branch.
