Francis Robert William Arundell was born on 29 July 1924, the son of Sydney Robert and Mary Harriet Arundell. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank in January 1941, when he was 16 years old.

He later left his job at the bank's Rickmansworth branch to go on war service, becoming a Private in the Essex Regiment. He died in France on 10 July 1944, a few weeks before his 20th birthday.
