William Gordon Anderson was born on 12 May 1905, the son of Magnus and Wilhelmina Anderson. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank in April 1923 at Maidstone branch, subsequently serving at Tunbridge Wells, Tadworth and Swindon branches. In December 1938 he moved to Manchester branch.

 

During the Second World War Anderson left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Artillery. Lance Bombardier Anderson was killed as the result of an accident on 27 July 1943. He was 38 years old and left a widow, Gwendoline, whom he had married in 1938, and two young children.
