Francis Mark Beck was born on 5 June 1911, the son of John Francis and Annie Elizabeth Beck. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in February 1929, working at Ellesmere Port, Earlestown and St Helens branches. In August 1939 he was transferred to Liverpool Trustee department. A colleague later recalled his ‘quiet confidence and genial spirit’.

 

A year after his move to the Trustee department, in August 1940, Beck left the bank to join the Royal Artillery, serving as a Lance Bombardier in a Light Anti-Aircraft Battery. He was wounded in action while serving in North West Europe and died of his injuries on 11 October 1944. He was 33 years old. 

 

Francis Beck is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Liverpool City Office branch.
