Grahame John Deveney Bryant was born on 18 March 1919, the son of George John Thomas and Winifred Victoria Bryant. He was educated in Kent, and was an accomplished schoolboy athlete, the captain of both rugby and cricket at his school. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank’s London Lothbury head office in October 1936 and moved to Borough branch in July 1939.

 

Bryant had signed up for the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve early in 1939 and was called up for active services at the outbreak of war in September. He trained as a navigator and spent a long period as a navigation instructor at an RAF flying school in Rhodesia.  

 

Flight Lieutenant Bryant was killed in a flying accident in Scotland on 16 November 1944. He was 25 years old and left a widow, Yvonne Joyce, whom he had married in 1940.
